When We Think Out of the Box, and Out of that Box
and Out of that Box, and Out of that Box...



Most dictionaries liken meditation to the act of reflection, introspection, contemplation or union. Over a thousand scientific studies spanning six decades have shown that meditation can improve far reaching health issues such as heart health, PMS and anxiety, to name a few.  Studies have also shown positive effects on attitude and performance, demonstrated by increased job productivity, sales numbers and school attendance rates.  Meditation can also be used as part of the creative process we call life.

Two decades of studying human development, tendencies and potential has brought me to an understanding that even greater possibilities exist than higher achievement or alleviation of symptoms.  When we take age old concepts of meditation, such as seeking inner peace, transcending circumstance or feeling oneness with all that is and bring an updated spin to the practice making it more relevant to current society, we are able to experience first hand, in our lives today, what some of the great philosophers and activists have known for some time.

We are going through times of change in many of our personal lives, as well as in our local and global community.  As Albert Einstein once said, "No problem can be solved from the same consciousness that created it.  We must think with a new mind." When we live our lives with conscious awareness (the choice to be mindful), we see with relativity. We see with a widened perspective in general, which opens ourselves and our lives to greater possibilities.  We are more apt to think out of the box on a regular basis, more apt to think in a manner that is connected to something bigger than ourselves and our preconceived notions.  We act with a mindset that naturally includes a desire to bring about outcomes that are in the best interested of the greater good.

Similar in thought is Gandhi's message, "We must be the change we wish to see in the world."  Helpful change requires letting go of outdated perspectives and embracing new ones.  The practice of meditation trains us to have an ongoing, built-in, meditative mind set in our daily lives. It helps us ignite our creativity, intuition and genius. It helps us to know and manifest our soul’s desires.  It helps us walk a walk of compassion, service and love.  By exercising these faculties and attitudes, we open ourselves and our lives to greater, more serving possibilities within the relationships and environments we co-create.
